The cardiologists at Universal Cardiac Solutions have established an outstanding reputation in the treatment and management of complex cardiac problems. They are board certified in interventional cardiology (coronary and peripheral vascular). Their credentials exceed the national guidelines and the recommended volume of procedures set by the American College of Cardiology. Services include:
Atrial Septal Defect Closure (ASDC) - performed to close abnormal hole between two of the heart’s chambers.
Coil Embolization- performed to close a patent duct arteriosus(PDA), to stop bleeding in an aneurysm as well as to stop blood flow in arteriovenousmal formation (AVM).
Coronary Stent - usually done to open up a coronary artery that is narrowed or blocked by plaque build-up (Atherosclerosis), and to structurally support that opening by permanently placing a metal stent.
Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) - is a mechanical device that is used to decrease myocardial oxygen demand while at the same time increasing cardiac output.
Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) - is a medical imaging methodology using a specially designed catheter with a miniaturized ultrasound probe attached to the distal end of the catheter. The proximal end of the catheter is attached to computerized ultrasound equipment. It allows the application of ultrasound technology to see from inside blood vessels out through the surrounding blood column, visualizing the endothelium (inner wall) of blood vessels in living individuals. The main benefit of this imaging is to visualize plaque, which cannot be seen by angiography..
Patent Foramen Ovale Closure (PFOC) - A patent foramen ovale is a small, flap-like opening in the dividing wall (septum) between the upper two chambers of the heart – the left atrium and the right atrium and is already implicated as a cause of stroke, particularly in young people. Percutaneous closure of patent foramen ovale is now done for secondary stroke prevention in people in whom other causes of stroke have been ruled out.
Peripheral Stent – performed to open up peripheral artery that is narrowed, hardened, or blocked by atherosclerosis. Procedure is performed by placing a metal stent in the blocked or narrowed artery.
Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty (PTA) - performed to open up peripheral artery that is narrowed or blocked by plaque build-up (Atherosclerosis) by using a balloon tipped catheter. Peripheral arteries most commonly affected by atherosclerosis are: cerebral arteries, carotid arteries, renal arteries, abdominal arteries, illiac arteries, femoropopliteal arteries, and infrapopliteal arteries.
Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA) - usually done to open up coronary artery that is narrowed or blocked by plaque build-up (Atherosclerosis) by using a balloon tipped catheter.
Rotational Atherectomy - usually done as part of a PTCA mainly to remove plaque buildup that is blocking or narrowing one of the coronary arteries.
Thrombolytic Treatment – performed during or shortly after a heart attack through the injection of medicine that is capable of breaking apart harmful and rigid blood clots.
